AMENDMENT #1 TO MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE CANADIAN TRADE OFFICE IN TAIPEI AND THE TAIPEI ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL OFFICE IN CANADA

1.Signed on September 27, 2001; Entered into force on September 27, 2001.
WHEREAS the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei and the Taipei Econ-
omic and Cultural Office in Canada (hereinafter referred to as
the "Parties") entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (here-
inafter referred to as "the MOU") to further their respective
research and technological objectives;
WHEREAS, the Parties wish to amend the MOU;
THEREFORE the Parties have reached the following understanding:
1.The MOU shall be read will the amended terms stated below.
With respect to all other terms, the Parties confirm the MOU.
4.For greater certainty Article 2 (c) of the MOU, entitled "Sco-
pe", is amended by adding to the listed areas of cooperative
research and development "nano-sciences and nano-technology".
5.Article 12 (a) of the MOU is deleted and the following is sub-
stituted therefore:
"The effective date of this MOU is October 2, 1997 and the MOU
will continue in effect for a period of ten (10) years thereaft-
er, unless terminated prior to that date by either Party. Either
Party may terminate this MOU on ninety (90) days written notice
to the other. In case of termination for whatever cause, the pr-
ovisions concerning intellectual commercial value or present si-
gnificant scientific interest. In addition, if this MOU is term-
inated for whatever cause, the Cooperating Agencies will contin-
ue to provide joint conditions of this MOU will continue to be
in force until those CRPs are completed."
DONE in duplicate at Taipei, this 27th day of September 2001.
