Mr. James K. J. Lee
Deputy Representative

Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United
States 4201 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20016-2137

Dear Deputy Representative Lee:

I am writing in regard to the Agreement between the American
Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and Taipei Economic and Cultural
Representative Office in the United States (TECRO), implemented
by their designated representatives, the National Aeronautics
and Space Administration (NASA) and the Taiwan Environmental
Protection Administration (TEPA), respectively, concerning
cooperation on the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) and Micro
Pulse Lidar Network (MPLNET). This Agreement went into effect on
July 13, 2007, and expired on July 13, 2017.

In order to continue our mutually beneficial cooperation on this
activity, AIT proposes to renew the 2007 Agreement, with a new
expiration date of July 31, 2027, with the following amendment:

‧Article IX – Rights in Resulting Data: Insert “through open
data archives ” to the first sentence, so it reads “ Final
results of the experiments will be made available to the
scientific community through open data archives, publication
in appropriate journals, or other established channels as soon
as practicable and consistent with good scientific practice.

If this proposal is acceptable to TECRO, I propose that this
letter, together with your affirmative reply letter, constitute
an agreement renewing and amending the 2007 Agreement that shall
enter into force on the date of your affirmative reply letter
with effect from July 13, 2017.

Sincerely,

AIT OFFICAL
