AGREEMENT OF TECHNICAL COOPERATION BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA AND SIERRA LEONE

The Government of the Republic of China and the Government of S-
ierra Leone, being desirous of further promoting the friendly r-
elations happily existion between them, have agreed through the-
ir respective representatives upon the following articles:
ARTICLE Ⅰ
The Chinese Government shall send to Sierra Leone a Farming Dem-
onstration Team, composed of one leader, a deputy and 8 to 10 M-
embrs to carry out general farming particularly rice growing for
two years in an area in the Port Loko District in the Northern
Province of Sierra Leone on an experimental and demonstration b-
asis.
ARTICLE Ⅱ
The Chinese Government shall defray the travelling cost of the
Team to and from Sierra Leone.
ARTICLE Ⅲ
The Chinese Government shall pay the salaries to the Team during
their period of services in Sierra Leone.
ARTICLE Ⅳ
The Team shall enjoy equal treatment as accorded by the Governm-
ent of Sierra Leone to the nationals of third countries serving
in Sierra Leone in connection with technical cooperation projec-
ts between those countries and Sierra Leone.
ARTICLE Ⅴ
The Team shall have free use of the land in the demonstration a-
rea for the purpose as provided in Article I.
The Team shall turn over to the Government of Sierra Leone all
products from the land in this demonstration area except a reas-
onable part thereof to be kept for the Team's own consumption.
ARTICLE Ⅵ
The Government of Sierra Leone shall undertake land clearing an-
d land preparation and construction of necessary water supply a-
nd irrigation and drainage system.
ARTICLE Ⅶ
The Government of Sierra Leone shall provide the Team with hous-
es furnished with water, electricity, furniture, beddings, stov-
es, refrigerators and utensils. The Leader of the Team shall oc-
cupy at least one room; not more then two Members shall so far
as may be reasonably practical occupy one room.
ARTICLE Ⅷ
The Government of Sierra Leone shall provide farming implements
and tools as specified in the Annex together with two auto vehi-
cles including fuel supply, maintenance and repair.
The Government of Sierra Leone shall provide fertilizers, seeds
and pesticides as specified in the Annex.
ARTICLE Ⅸ
The Government of Sierra Leone shall defray all medical expenses
incurred by the Team in agreement with it.
The Government of Sierra Leone shall designate a Liaison Officer
to reside near the living quarters of the Team in order to prov-
ide such assistance as is requested.
ARTICLE Ⅹ
The parties to this Agreement shall effectuate its provisions by
exerting every effort to accomplish the attached Schedule of IM-
plementation.

ANNEX TO AGREEMENT
Landrovers
Irrigation Pump (24'Headx200 gals. water per minute)
Loan of Tractor and implements as necessary.
Fertilizers and Pesticides.
Small tools as may be required.
Provision of 20 labourers for 2 months to clear the land and bu-
ild bunds or canals.
Provision of 2 drivers for the Landrovers.
Provision of 2 watchmen.
