1.Signed on November 6, 1993; Entered into force on November 6, 1993.
 
WHEREAS the Chinese National Laboratory Accreditation (hereinaf-
ter refereed to as the CNLA) of the Republic of China and the N-
ational Calibration Service (hereinafter referred to as the NCS)
of the Republic of South Africa wish to promote the acceptance
of certificates issued by the calibration laboratories accredit-
ed by the other party;
AND WHEREAS the acceptance of certificates of calibration depen-
ds on operating an effective national calibration service;
THEREFORE, the CNLA and the NCS hereby agree as follows;
1.On the basis of the equivalence of the maintenance of the nat-
ional measurement standards of both parties, as previously ag-
reed, and correspondingly of the operation of national calibr-
ation service, each signatory to this Technical Undertaking s-
tates that the CNLA and the NCS will
(1) recognise the operation of their National Calibration Servi-
ce as being equivalent;
(2) accept on an equal basis the certificares issued by their a-
ccredited calibration laboratories;
(3) promote the acceptance of certificates issued by their acc_-
edited calibration laboratories by all users in their count-
ries;
(4) investigate all complaints resulting from certificates issu-
ed by their accredited laboratories;
(5) inform each other of all deficiencies which become apparent
in the certificates, and which affect their integrity, issu-
ed-by their accredited calibration laboratories.
2.If a signatory wishes to withdraw from this Technical Underta-
king for any reason whatsoever, he shall notify the other sig-
natory to this Technical Undertaking in writing not later than
three months in advance ofwithdrawing.
3.Any amendment of the text of the Bilateral Technical Undertak-
ing shall be made in accordance with rules of procedure that
the signatories inay establish.
4.In the event of a dispute, the matter shall be referred to a
regular meeting between the CNLA and the NCS for adjudication.
5.This Technical Undertaking consists of two pages and is signed
on behalfofeach participating party.
