THE TAIPEI CHINA-EUROPEAN BANK COOPERATION FUND
LETTER OF INTENT
1.This Letter of Intent is entered into between the Government
of Taipei China (the Government) and the European Bank for Re-
construction and Development (the Bank), hereinafter referred
to as ”the Parties.”
2.Both parties note that, by an Agreement dated 16 September 199
1 between the Government and the Bank, the Government establi-
shed THE TAIPEI CHINA-EUROPEAN BANK COOPERATION FUND (the Fund
) with an initial capital of US$10 million. By a letter dated
8 December 1994, the Government notified the Bank of its deci-
sion to replenish the fund by an amount of US$5 million, ther-
eby bringing the total contribution of the Government to US$15
million.
3.This Letter of Intent reflects the desire of the Parties to w-
ork more closely together, and the Government's intention, su-
bject to legislative approval of the budget, to replenish the
Fund by a further amount of US$5 million.
4.The Government will take the necessary steps to facilitate the
approval of the above-mentioned funds to be made available fr-
om the Government's 1998-1999 budget. The Funds shall be tran-
sferred to the Bank in two equal installments of US$2.5 milli-
on each in 1998 and 1999, promptly after the budget being app-
roved.
5.The replenishment, once approved, shall be subject to the same
terms and conditions as those set forth in the Agreement dated
16 September 1991, as amended by the exchange of letters betw-
een the Government and the Bank on 15 March 1994.
6.Signed in Taipei on the twenty-fifth day of September, in the
year one thousand nine hundred and ninety-seven.
